Your Citizens wheel gives you a clear and visual way to track your progress, skills and learning over time. Whether you’re working through a course, growing through hands-on actions, or exploring a community-led journey, your wheel helps you see where you are, and where you can grow.
What is the wheel?
The wheel is a visual heatmap that shows your development across different areas, based on the actions and evidence you’ve added to your profile.
Each wheel is powered by a curriculum, a framework of skills, competencies or outcomes. This could be a Citizens Skills 360™, UN Impact 360 or a curriculum created by your school or an organisation.
What wheels are available to me?
The Global Benchmarks
Every user has access to Citizens’ Global Benchmarks: the Citizens Skills 360™, a global benchmark for skills and personal development, and the UN Impact 360, a global benchmark for social impact.
Other curricula
Some students will also have access to curricula added by their school, such as an International Baccalaureate programme or their school’s own graduate profile.
How are wheels structured?
Curricula define the structure of your wheel and what you’re being assessed or guided against. They’re made up of:
🔹 First-level domains
These are the broadest categories in your wheel. Think of them as the main ‘slices’ (e.g. Civic, Knowledge, Skills).
🔹 Strands
Strands are subcategories within each domain that offer more detail. For example, under Civic, you might find strands like “Service” or “Advocacy”.
🔹 Learning outcomes or levels
These are the most specific elements: individual skills, behaviours or outcomes. The way these are written and organised depends on who created the curriculum and how it was set up. Some may use levels (e.g. sustainability level 1, sustainability level 2), others may list outcomes or capabilities (e.g., Environment, Volunteering).
Understanding the heatmap matrix
The wheel uses a heatmap-style matrix to show your growth visually:
Lighter colours = fewer actions or lower levels of development
Darker colours = more actions or higher levels of development
You can hover over any slice or segment to see which skill or outcome it represents, and click through to explore related actions.
Viewing actions in your wheel
You can view your actions directly from the wheel by clicking on any filled square or heatmap segment. You’ll see a list of the actions that contribute to that specific outcome or strand.
This lets you:
Check what you've already done
Add evidence
Spot areas where you can grow next
Using grid view
Prefer a more structured list? Switch to Grid view for a breakdown of all your learning outcomes and how many actions you’ve linked to each. You can sort or filter to find specific domains, strands or levels.
Navigating different wheels
You might have more than one wheel, especially if you’re part of multiple communities or courses. To switch between them:
Go to your wheel view
Use the dropdown menu at the top to select a different curriculum
Your heatmap will update automatically
You can always return to your main wheel at any time.
